Didier Drogba confesses before Chelsea’s UCL match. Before Chelsea’s match against Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, Didier Drogba, a Chelsea veteran, made a disappointed statement about his old team.
This season, the Blues have fallen far short of their typical caliber. Before their encounter against Real Madrid, they had lost their previous three games in all competitions and were now ranked eleventh in the Premier League.
Drogba is angry about the team’s poor recent performance. Before the second game at Stamford Bridge, the former Ivory Coast striker admitted to Canal+ Sport, “I no longer recognize my club.”
With 381 appearances for the club across two stints, 164 goals, and 86 assists, Drogba is a genuine Chelsea icon.
He converted the deciding penalty kick in the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, giving the Blues the victory. The victory was the club’s first in the UEFA Champions League, with its headquarters in west London.
Chelsea was defeated by Real Madrid 2-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ben Chilwell received a red card in addition to the loss and will serve a two-leg suspension as a result.
In their matchup with Real Madrid, Frank Lampard’s team has a difficult assignment. Lampard identified the areas that the team needs to work on to have success in the second leg when speaking to the media before the game.
He stated (as quoted by Chelsea’s official website): “We had scoring opportunities last week, but there were also a lot of things we might have done better. I felt it both during the game and now that the game has been examined. Throughout the game, there were some things we intended to achieve from the start but didn’t perform well enough.
“That’s not just the physical side, it was our use of the ball,” continued Lampard. If we want to have a chance of winning this game, we can and must improve on that. We worked on that, and hopefully, the results are evident in the game.
“I have made that plain to the players. I’m confident that they can give it their all, but we need to up our game and improve from last week.
Chelsea enters the match coming off three straight losses in different competitions. In contrast, Real Madrid defeated Cadiz 2-0 in their most recent La Liga match.
