Zinedine Zidane could be the next manager of Chelsea. Glen Johnson, a former Chelsea player, has suggested that after Graham Potter was fired, the Blues look into hiring Zinedine Zidane as their new boss.
If appointed, the Englishman thinks the former Real Madrid manager would immediately improve the West London team’s performances.
“When we talk about individuals walking through the doors and having an instant effect, blimey if Zidane walked through the doorways at Stamford Bridge and into that locker room – that’s a statement,” Johnson said to DAZNbet (via football.london). It’s unclear if he wishes to do it, but I believe that would be exciting for everyone.
It depends on where he is in his life right now, but I’m pretty positive he’s having fun, he continued. There is nothing that man hasn’t done that would have a huge impact and be extremely exciting for anything associated with Chelsea when you get top players who become top managers.
Under Potter, Chelsea has been in dismal form, spending the bulk of the season in the middle of the table. After 28 league contests, the Blues have only won ten games this season.
The West London team recently lost 2-0 to Aston Villa at home, which was probably the turning moment for Potter’s career at the organization. Following the loss, Chelsea dropped to 11th place in the standings, and the English manager has fired soon after.
With three consecutive Champions League victories as Real Madrid’s manager, Zidane would undoubtedly offer years of experience in the top flight. Who will be named the following regular head coach at Stamford Bridge is still to be determined.
Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, may have intended to fire Thomas Tuchel as soon as he took over the club, according to Johnson. The Englishman drew attention to the German manager’s quick dismissal by the West London organization because he was fired at the beginning of the 2022–2023 season.
According to the aforementioned source, Johnson stated the following about the club’s owners: “Well, these football owners of today are extremely businessmen and undoubtedly intelligent, but they aren’t super intelligent with everything they do. They have a unique collection of skills, but for someone like Boehly who hasn’t been playing football for very long, you’d think he’d assemble a group of teammates with that background.
We don’t know who pulled the plug, but the former Chelsea defender continued, “I can’t think it would be just one guy. Thomas Tuchel is someone that every elite squad would kill to have. Boehly’s first order of business was to fire him. Because there simply wasn’t enough time for them to have fallen out, we know he didn’t want him there as soon as he purchased the club.
