The 21-year-old is accused of trying to rape someone, acting violently, and using coercion and control. After being first detained in February, the 21-year-old was later released on bail. He was detained once more on Saturday on suspicion of violating his bail terms, and prosecutors then filed charges against him.
On Monday, Greenwood appeared in Manchester Magistrates’ Court and spoke only to reaffirm his name, birthdate, and residence. Greenwood was subsequently remanded in custody until his upcoming court appearance at Manchester Crown Court on November 21. The proceedings were then postponed.
The claimed attempted rape took place in October 2021, and the attack took place in December 2021. The behavior that is being controlled and coerced upon occurs between November 2018 and October 2022. The same woman is charged with all three offenses.
Manchester United has suspended Greenwood since his original detention in February, and the club has stated in a statement that this suspension will continue until a resolution is achieved. The Crown Prosecution Service has filed criminal charges against Mason Greenwood, according to Manchester United. He continues to be suspended by the club while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
