Newcastle United is interested in signing Ferran Torres. According to reports, Newcastle United has emerged as the front-runner to capture Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer.
El Nacional reports that the Catalan giants have placed Spain international on transfer-list to recoup some of the €55 million they spent to acquire him in January 2022. He seems to want to remain in Barca.
Torres will need to quit the team, though, if he hopes to play a significant part in the first-team setup for La Roja and receive regular playing time. He started just 13 games in La Liga this season as Xavi Hernandez demoted him to a supporting position.
In contrast, Newcastle wants to improve the caliber of their team in preparation for playing in the UEFA Champions League the following year. The Magpies are unwilling to pay a premium price for the former Manchester City forward, supported by their Saudi Arabian-based owners.
Barcelona’s owners are aware that the Toons could be under pressure to renegotiate the conditions of a potential deal as a result of their desperation to sell. Although the 23-year-old Torres can play anywhere in the frontline, he is frequently used on the left flank.
It is unclear if the Barcelona attacker, who previously won the Premier League with Manchester City, will be willing to play there again. His long-term contract with the Blaugrana expires in the summer of 2027, and he is still under it.
Xavi highlights Barcelona’s top summer acquisitions:
When asked what Barcelona has in store for the summer transfer window, Xavi Hernandez left no room for interpretation.
The superstar Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), whose contract expires this summer, has been heavily linked to the Catalan giants as a free transfer. In addition to the national hero of Argentina, they must replace Sergio Busquets in midfield.
Xavi stated, through Barca Blaugranes, before his team’s final La Liga match of the year: “The top priorities are obvious. I desperately want Leo to come back. He is aware of it, and I have previously mentioned him. It somewhat depends on him. The goal is to find a defensive midfielder in addition to Leo. They represent the perfect situation.”
On Sunday, June 4, Barcelona will play in a La Liga match against Celta Vigo to cap up a largely successful campaign. This season, they won the Supercopa de Espana, the league crown, and advanced to the Copa del Rey final.
