Edouard Mendy is scheduled to complete his long-anticipated move to Chelsea on Tuesday said Frank Lampard.
Blues manager Lampard expecting the 28-year-old to complete his transfer soon after the Rennes goalkeeper received a medical at Chelsea on Tuesday.
The arrival of Mendy will bring competition for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has struggled for form and confidence.
Kepa made his latest pivotal error in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League, and Mendy’s arrival would bring the £72million Spain star under tremendous pressure.
“Mendy’s getting a medical as we talked, subject to that being OK later on so he’ll become our player at that stage,” Lampard said.
“With Mendy coming in its more rivalry, so any response would have to be optimistic about that from Kepa.”
“Mendy is going to force himself to try to play in this squad when he comes on; we know that. We realize the expectations that a goalkeeper in this squad deserves, but we have to push for that.”
