Chelsea prepared to sign a deal for Moises Caicedo. Conor Gallagher is willing to join Chelsea in a player-plus-cash deal to recruit Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to Football Insider, to lure Caicedo away from the Amex, the Blues are willing to use Gallagher as bait. The English midfielder is something in which Brighton is long-term interested.
According to reports, the Seagulls see Gallagher as the perfect alternative for Alexis MacAllister, who has joined Liverpool. Last season, the former Crystal Palace loanee played 45 times in all competitions, contributing to four goals. He is being monitored by both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22-year-old might find it challenging to crack Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup the next year. It’s expected that the Blues will change their midfield again. For a club record of £106.8 million, Enzo Fernandez moved in January.
The 21-year-old Caicedo, who had an outstanding previous season with Brighton, is also a target for Chelsea. He played in 43 games across several tournaments, with one goal and one assist. The Ecuadorian has nonetheless emerged as one of the Premier League’s most esteemed midfielders thanks to his all-around ability.
In addition to being a skilled ball-handler, Caicedo boasts defensive skills. Last season, he occasionally filled up as a right-back under Roberto De Zerbi.
The Ecuadorian allegedly has four years left on his contract and is valued at £80-85 million by Brighton. By giving Gallagher, the residents of West London might be trying to reduce that charge and, as a result, lessen their obligation to adhere to Financial Fair Play.
In light of Caicedo’s rising reputation in the English Premier League, Arsenal, and Manchester United have also expressed interest. It appears that he will leave the Amex this summer.
Conor Gallagher is adamant that he wants to remain and compete for a position at Chelsea:
The Blues might be thinking about selling Gallagher to pursue Caicedo. The English midfielder has, however, made it clear that he wants to remain at Stamford Bridge.
He said (via Metro): “I’m a Chelsea player, and I love Chelsea, so of course (I want to stay). The entire team, the club, and I have had an extremely difficult season.
After a disastrous season, he said that he and his teammates are eager to restore the West London giants’ prior success: “I believe we will simply put forth our best effort to return Chelsea to their rightful place.”
The Blues concluded the season in the league’s poor 12th spot. Gallagher and Company had a forgettable season as they failed to qualify for Europe at all.
If he stays with Pochettino after this summer, the Englishman may start over. The former Palace loanee is the subject of a choice for the Argentine manager.
