Chelsea was held to a goalless draw with Wolves on Sunday after the Premier League rejected their request to postpone the match due to covid-19 cases in the club. There are only four matches left in the top 10 of the schedule this weekend, as the worsening of the coronavirus crisis in Britain has dented the English League. Premier League clubs will meet on Monday to discuss measures to be taken, with questions rising about the integrity of the competition as the busy holiday season approaches.
Chelsea’s stumbling block from illness and injury in recent weeks has managed to name just four players on the bench for their Molineux match. The visitors, who have now won only two of their last six league games, have enjoyed most of the possession but have only managed one shot on goal and are now six points behind City leaders.
Thomas Tuchel was without Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who tested positive for Covid-19. Jorginho, Kai Havertz, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were also not on the team. Chelsea has previously confirmed that their request to cancel the game has been denied.
The European champion’s call is understood to have been rejected as it was believed that the Blues had enough players to complete the match. “I gave my opinion and you can do whatever you want with it,” a disappointed Tuchel told the BBC after the match. “I can’t compare myself to other sports, it’s just our position it’s not safe. We are talking about the safety of the players and a safe environment, but it is not safe. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next test comes and we have more positives. If we get on the bus and have dinner and be together as if nothing has happened, how come they stop?”
