The Blues, for whom only Edouard Mendy and Mateo Kovacic kept eleven spots from Sunday’s Spurs draw, struck from the outset and after eight minutes, had maximum value for Giroud’s opener as he had time to turn on his left foot and side-foot home after Kai Havertz had set up.
A second-string Chelsea side thrashed Sevilla to seal top spot in Champions League Group E after Olivier Giroud scored four.
N’Golo Kante was forced on by a triple change halfway through the half and he crossed wonderfully from the right flank for his compatriot 16 minutes from time to power a header home in trademark style.
For the majority of the first half, Sevilla had most of the action, but Chelsea still looked the more threatening side and came out brightly after the break with the French striker doubling the lead after being played in by Kovacic with a cultured dink over Alfonso Pastor.
With seven minutes to go, Giroud was bundled over in the box by Sergi Gomez and dusted himself off to give Pastor the wrong direction from the spot, before Frank Lampard eventually had grace on his opponents and took him off.
With Sevilla now securing a spot in the next round with 10 points, Chelsea currently has 13 points out of five games.
