Edouard Mendy, Chelsea’s goalkeeper withdrew from Senegal’s squad after sustaining a thigh injury in training ahead of the matches against Morocco and Mauritania this month according to the Goal.
Chelsea is now sweating on the problem’s seriousness, and when domestic football resumes on 17 October if Mendy is not fit in time to face Southampton, it could mean an early recall for former number one Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Senegalese Football Federation reported that the 28-year-old has suffered an injury to his right thigh during a training session on Wednesday.
He was subsequently treated at a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal is preparing to face Morocco, but Mendy’s decision to withdraw has now been made.
