Ian Maatsen says he is in touch with Hakim Ziyech. A loanee from Chelsea claims to be in contact with Hakim Ziyech. Ian Maatsen, a Chelsea loanee currently playing for Burnley in the Championship, revealed that despite leaving the Blues, he still keeps in touch with Hakim Ziyech daily.
Maatsen participated in preseason training sessions with the Blues under Thomas Tuchel before being loaned to Burnley. The 20-year-old Dutchman has acclimated nicely to life at Turf Moor, making 23 appearances this season, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists.
Under the leadership of new manager Vincent Kompany, Burnley is having an outstanding season in the Championship. They have changed their strategy to a possession-based style of play, and they are seeing success as they now sit atop the Championship table.
Maatsen disclosed that he continues to speak daily with Chelsea winger Ziyech. “We still FaceTime every day,” the left-back stated. Ziyech performed admirably for Morocco during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but his club performances haven’t been as strong. In 14 games this season, he has yet to score and has only contributed one assist.
Ziyech has contributed 11 assists and 14 goals for the Blues in 97 appearances since coming from Ajax in 2020. Ziyech might have it much more difficult to earn regular playing time now that Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix have joined the team recently. Graham Potter’s team will also welcome Christopher Nkunku in the summer. Ziyech’s future with the club so appears questionable at this time.
