Arsenal will be signing Netherlands star Simons. The Gunners are planning to grab Simons from the Parisians, for whom he previously played, according to Get Football News France. In the agreement that brought him to the Phillips Arena last summer, the Ligue 1 champions included a £5.1 million release clause.
Arsenal is keeping an eye on PSG, who are eager to exercise that release clause. They merely need to match that amount, and Simons’ position makes it easier for them to do so. The midfielder from the Netherlands doesn’t want to go back to Parc des Princes.
PSV, though, is desperate to hold onto the highly regarded 20-year-old who excelled in the just-completed season. In 48 appearances across tournaments, Simons produced an outstanding 22 goals and 12 assists. In the Dutch top division last season, he also won 200 more ground duels than any other player.
To assure his continued association with the Eredivisie giants, Peter Bosz’s team is prepared to designate him as captain. With four caps, he has begun to break into the Netherlands national team picture.
One of the most promising young talents in Europe, Simons’ reputation is growing. Last season, he received praise from former PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. The legendary former Netherlands striker told Voetbal International that the former PSG forward reminded him of himself.
He added: “He is exerting every effort to reach his top position. The intriguing challenge is where that will be. I can relate to that part of him where he wants to sacrifice everything for it because I used to be a player. I can only smile at that.”
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is committed to bringing in more young players. At the Emirates, he has done well with a young Gunners team. Under his guidance, Bukayo Saka, 21, Gabriel Martinelli, 22, and William Saliba, 22, have all excelled.
Given that he was short on playing time before leaving, Simons might be hesitant to join PSG again. For the Parisians, he made just 11 appearances and contributed one assist.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta plays down potential PSG move:
Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has recently been connected to the PSG management position. The formal announcement of Christophe Galtier’s retirement from the Parc des Princes is currently being made in Paris. Last year, the French tactician won Ligue 1 but struggled in the UEFA Champions League.
Galtier’s team lost to Bayern Munich in the round of 16, and it seems likely that they will also lose the rest of their European matches. As a result, Arteta has been considered as a possible replacement.
Arteta has, however, shot down any prospects of him succeeding Galtier by stating to Marca: “I can only express my happiness at Arsenal. I feel appreciated and loved by Stan and Josh (the two Kroenkes, our proprietors), and I have a lot to do at this club. Being at Arsenal makes me grateful and pleased.”
It appears that Luis Enrique, an Arteta countryman, will be hired by PSG. According to reports, the former Barcelona manager is expected to start on a two-year contract.
