Man United manager speaks on Raphael Varane’s retirement. Raphael Varane‘s announcement of his retirement from international football prompted a response from Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. The French defender’s nine-year career playing for his nation is now over. 29-year-old Varane posted on Instagram: “I felt tremendous satisfaction each time I donned this exceptional blue shirt. the obligation to play with all of my might, to win every time we were on the field. After giving it some thought, I’ve decided that now is the ideal time for me to retire abroad.”
The former Real Madrid defender participated in the 2022 World Cup final and helped Les Bleus win the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played 93 times for his country, tallying 5 goals. Varane’s decision to retire from international football has been discussed by Ten Hag, who believes it is good news for Manchester United.
The Dutchman praised Varane as well, saying: “It’s excellent news for (Manchester United), in my opinion. I have the utmost regard for Rapha since he accomplished so much, not just for his football club but also for his country. I’m glad he gives the team all of his effort and wisdom.”
This season, Varane has performed admirably for the Red Devils. He has played in 18 games in all competitions, contributing to the team’s eight shutouts. Only three times had Ten Hag’s team lost with the French defender on the field. Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest by Manchester United saw Lindelof enter the game in the second half (February 1). With the win, Steve Cooper’s team was defeated 5-0 overall, advancing Ten Hag’s team to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
Lindelof’s surprise arrival as a ten-minute defensive midfielder stunned the crowd. Ten Hag has hinted that he would resume playing the part throughout the campaign. In Benfica, Lindelof was trained as a control holding midfielder as a 6-year-old, the man added. I am confident that he is capable of doing that. We have already used it in practice and possibly once in a game. Additionally, I want my centre-backs to occasionally play in midfield.
Despite Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s successful connection, Lindelof has had trouble getting into games this season. Although the Swede has made 16 appearances, he might soon receive a new defensive midfield assignment. At Old Trafford, he still has one year left on his deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag reportedly turned down loan offers for the defender from Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid last month.
