Raphael Varane states that playing in the Premier League has taken him out of his “comfort zone” as he has opened up about his first few months as a Manchester United player. Raphael joined Manchester United on a football transfer agreeing to a four-year contract with a further year in option. Varane played at Real Madrid for a decade starting from 2011 to 2021, where he made over 250 La Liga games.
Since moving from Spanish League La Liga to Premier League Varane discussed getting out of his ‘comfort zone’ at Manchester United. Since making the transition, the defender has established himself as an important player of United’s team, appearing in all of their subsequent games.
Varane told L’Equipe how much he has enjoyed his time with the club so far before France’s Nations League semi-final against Belgium. “I am very happy with this beginning of the adventure. The Premier League is a Championship renowned for its intensity,” he said.
“There is a different atmosphere, a different mentality in general in relation to football. It’s a different approach and a different experience for me. I enjoy playing, getting out of my comfort zone, looking for new benchmarks in relation to my teammates. It’s another way of defending, it’s super interesting for me.”
United have struggled in recent weeks despite the fact that Varane has settled in nicely, for the most part. They had only won one of their previous four matches before the international break, and that was thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s last-minute Champions League clincher against Villarreal.
