Arsenal to start a new contract with Saliba. Arsenal has allegedly started talks with defensive mainstay William Saliba over a possible contract extension. This season, Saliba has been a key member of the Gunners. Saliba has made 25 starts for the Gunners since his return from his loan stint at Olympique de Marseille. He and Gabriel Magalhaes have contributed to the club’s nine clean sheets across various tournaments.
The Frenchman’s presence adds an additional layer of protection to Mikel Arteta’s side at the back. He presently has a contract that runs through the 2023–24 season. Arsenal has reportedly begun working actively on extending his stay, according to Football Insider.
Along with Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Granit Xhaka are allegedly also talking about possibly extending their present contract. Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli, meanwhile, extended their contracts early this season.
William Saliba has been a member of Arsenal since he transferred from Saint-Etienne to the team in 2019. Before appearing in a single game for the Gunners, he did, however, spend time on loan at OGC Nice and Olympique de Marseille, both of which compete in Ligue 1.
The defender said (via the Gunners’ official website) of his time away from the team: “It helped me a lot because when you’re a young player, you have to play to develop, so that’s why I took the opportunity to improve, make errors, and grow up as well. I had a positive experience and improved as a result.”
“I didn’t play a single game here, so I always pondered about that,” Saliba continued. I was unable to leave this incredible institution without having played, so I was constantly planning to return.”
Salba acknowledged that he was unsure whether his return from the loan would result in him becoming a fixture at the north London team. Before I came back, I wished to play every game, but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to. I put a lot of effort into it, and everyone at the club helped me get off to a solid start, but it’s not done yet. Even the players who don’t start are good, so I must continue working out diligently. Since we are all on the same playing field, the rivalry is healthy.
The Frenchman also said that his goal as a Gunner is to win as many trophies as possible: “I want to win everything possible here, and to place the club back on the very top. I want to capture every title.” The player has undoubtedly established himself as a stalwart for Arsenal and led his team to the summit of the Premier League standings.
