Inter Miami will appoint Gerardo Martino as head coach. According to journalist Ariel Senosiain, Inter Miami is seeking to hire former Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino as their next manager after Lionel Messi decided to join the team.
After playing his farewell match for Paris Saint-Germain against Clermont Foot at the weekend, Messi’s future was uncertain. Messi had been linked to joining Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League and returning to Barcelona, but it now appears that he will sign with Inter Miami.
The Argentine’s stint in the top five leagues in Europe will come to an end after that. He retires with 496 goals, one more than his bitter rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds the record for the most goals scored in the top European leagues.
In addition to Messi, his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets is also expected to sign with an MLS franchise, according to 90min. Tata Martino, another ex-Barcelona player who oversaw the Blaugrana for 59 games between 2013 and 2014, may join the MLS team.
Under Martino, Messi participated in 46 games in all competitions, scoring 41 goals and dishing out 15 assists.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo may both play in the MLS:
Toni Juanmarti has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo may also be moving, even if Lionel Messi now appears destined to join Inter Miami, barring any formal declaration to the contrary. The Portuguese athlete competes for Al-Nassr of the Saudi Pro League.
Juanmarti speculated that the Portuguese might also immigrate to the United States. But Ronaldo recently shot off rumors about his future, claiming he would remain with Al-Nassr. In a recent interview with SPL’s official media, he stated: “I’m content here. I’m going to stay here because I want to.”
Messi appeared to be joining Al-Hilal at one time. He apparently received a two-year, €1 billion wage package from the Riyadh-based party. Fans, therefore, hoped that the greatest rivalry in football would rekindle in Saudi Arabia.
However, that won’t happen today because of Lionel Messi’s transfer to Inter Miami. However, Juanmarti claimed that the two might once more face off against one another in the MLS.
