On Sunday, Thomas Tuchel expressed on social media that he was “devastated” by his firing from Chelsea and thanked the team’s players and supporters for their support.
Following a 1-0 Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, Chelsea fired Tuchel, and Graham Potter of Brighton & Hove Albion was named as the new manager the following day.
After being hired in January 2021, Thomas Tuchel guided Chelsea to a Champions League victory four months later.
He then added the Super Cup and Club World Cup trophies last season.
Additionally, he oversaw Liverpool’s losses in the EFL and FA Cup penalty shootouts last year.
Despite outspending every other Premier League club in the recent transfer window.
Chelsea’s new owners, backed by Todd Boehly, decided to make changes after the club’s opening six Premier League games saw them collect just 10 points.
Thomas Tuchel has now expressed his regret at lasting less than two years, writing on Twitter:
“This is one of the most challenging statements I have ever had to write.
“And it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years.
“It was devastating that my time at Chelsea had ended.
“This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally.
“Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.
“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League, and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever.
“It is an honour to be part of this club’s history.
“And the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”
Tuchel oversaw 100 games as Chelsea boss in all competitions, winning 60.
Only Antonio Conte (68.8), Jose Mourinho (66), and Carlo Ancelotti (63.2) have surpassed Tuchel’s win percentage of 55.6% when managing the Blues for at least 50 games in the Premier League.
In 589 days in charge of Chelsea, Tuchel led the club to four major finals.
No coach has taken charge of the Blues in more finals, with Mourinho leading them to four.
Chelsea kept 49 clean sheets in Tuchel’s 100 matches at the helm.
The highest tally among Premier League clubs during that time (in all competitions).
Tuchel oversaw a dramatic downturn in the second half of his term despite all of his early victories.
In his first 50 games throughout all competitions, Tuchel has 32 wins, 11 ties, seven losses.
Chelsea managed fewer victories (28) and more than twice as many goals against in the next 50 games (53).
