Javier Calleja will be substituted by Unai Emery who has been sacked by Arsenal.
Unai Emery has been named Villarreal’s new head coach.
The former manager of the Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Seville signed a three-year contract with the club, which in 2019-20 finished fifth in LaLiga.
Last November Gunners ford Emery and since then this is his first job after a streak of only one win in all competitions in nine games.
Losing the Europa League final 4-1 to Chelsea last year, he failed to secure a return to the Champions League, after he succeeded Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium in 2018.
After leading Villarreal to a return to the Europa League, Javier Calleja left the club at the end of the league season and has been replaced by Emery.
“I don’t t hold any grudge but I’m hurt,” he told El Transistor. “Now it’s the turn of Unai Emery and I hope he takes them as high as possible.”
“I’m hurt by the way this has happened. I would have done it differently.”
