Spain will face Italy in the first semi-final match of the European tournament Euro 2020. It may be a match between teams that have almost forgotten what they feel like they are losing – Spain has only lost one of the last 29 matches – but Italy has an advantage at either end of the field by winning the last 32 matches. Spain head coach Luis Enrique has shared his expectations for the match against Italy in the Euro 2020 semi-final.
“If you think individual players are more important than the team, you don’t see big things in a team sport. We are more like a club than a national team. I see the problem is that Italy is the same in that respect – a real team,” Enrique told UEFA official website.
“I can see that the players are very happy and confident that they have reached the semi-finals of Euros by right. It is a very difficult task. When I played for the national team I never reached the semi-finals except for the 1992 Olympics. Therefore, I am sympathetic to the fact that the players are enjoying this situation.”
“Today we had a training session without heavy workloads – we need those to see how each of the players is feeling. So, all the guys look great. I am happy for them. Italy is very similar to Spain. It no longer likes to play from the defense as before and see what happens. It has great players aiming for possession.”
“The battle for possession will be the main one in this match. I don’t think both teams will be able to dominate at the same time, so it will be interesting to see who comes out ahead in this aspect. Well, Italy is a real team, both attacking and defending as a unit, just like us. They also press high – something that was hard to imagine before. Both teams will have chances.”
