Antonio Conte was recently named as the next coach of Tottenham Hotspur, taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo. Following the sacking of Santo, Conte was appointed as Spurs coach on 2nd November. He agreed on 18 months contract deal with an option to extend a further year. When challenged about his hefty compensation, Antonio Conte, coach of London football club Tottenham Hotspur, replied he does a “great job” and that “it’s right that they pay me.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport disclosed the Italian tactician’s hefty compensation of €18 million per season, and his contracts have always been a contentious topic, even during his tenure at Inter in previous years. Former Inter Milan coach departed the club out of mutual respect over the summer and was questioned by Le Iene about his financial condition in London.
“Is my salary like breaking the bank? I think the blow, a great blow, is done by whoever takes me,” Conte said according to Calciomercato. “You do your job and it’s right that you do it well. I do mine at the top and it’s right that they pay me.”
Conte said it’s a ‘tough’ to return Tottenham to the top four in England, but he wants to play well in both England and Europe this season. Conte continued, “Getting in to the top four will be a challenge. The Premier League is very tough, we will try to give our best in every match and do well in the Conference League too.”
The Italian manager won the Premier League title in his first year at Chelsea after winning three Scudetti with Juventus. He joins Inter after winning Serie A for the first time in 11 years with the Nerazzurri.
