Michael Owen and Glenn Hoddle respond to heated debate. During Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Michael Owen and Glen Hoddle responded to the contentious play featuring Hakim Ziyech (February 26). Ziyech appeared to have slapped Spurs defender Emerson Royal before being originally dismissed.
The judgment was changed to a yellow card after a VAR review, though. According to Owen, although it originally appeared as though Ziyech ought to have been dismissed because he appeared to slap Emerson, subsequent replays revealed that the Moroccan’s hand actually bounced off Emerson’s hand. He said the decision made in the end was correct.
“Richardson is fouled by Ziyech, and there are a few handbags there,” said Owen. “After that, the main issue is the shove and the push on Emerson Royal’s arm. The hand actually hits him in the forehead after rebounding off his arm. I ooh, this could be crimson from that perspective. Yellow is arguably the best option from this vantage point. There is a tonne of confusion as a result of the referee’s early red card and subsequent adjustment. A little bit of a mess, but I believe they made the correct choice.”
Prior to calling for a red card, Hoddle asserted that the officer ought to have looked at the video monitor. Before he issues the scarlet, that has to take place, he said (go and look at the monitor first). There, he has backed himself into a position. I concur; I believe it should be a yellow rather than a red card. I do, really. Shame on the referee right now. He’s dealing with a lot of strain. Every time Ziyech receives the ball now, you can see every Tottenham player as well as the supporters. Fans will be installed. He has placed pressure on himself. He had time because he was dispensing yellow cards.”
Even though Ziyech was able to remain on the field, he had no impact as Chelsea lost to Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur was their third straight setback across all categories. They have now lost all six of their games. Potter has now won just nine of the 28 games he has coached the Blues, losing 10. Even though the January transfer window was active, the Londoners weren’t able to make any progress on the field.
The ranks of Chelsea are filled with ability. Their on-field efforts, however, have not exactly been stellar. Potter’s suitability to lead their endeavor must be determined by the board.
