Arsenal finally witnessed a win in the new season after losing the first two matches. On Wednesday, Arsenal faced a weakened West Brom side but won a 6-0 match score with the right attitude. The Gunners have had a difficult start to the Premier League season, losing to Brentford and Chelsea in quick succession, putting pressure on Mikel Arteta. But now Arteta has hailed Arsenal players for smashing WBA.
Thanks to a hat-trick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the Gunners won their first game of the season in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. However, the Arsenal manager was rewarded for fielding a strong XI at the Hawthorns, where West Brom changed their entire lineup.
Mikel Arteta has been pleased with his Arsenal players’ attitude despite a difficult start to the new season. In the Premier League, Arsenal is without a point or even a goal marking the first time in the club’s history that they have lost their first two league matches without scoring. However, a trip to West Brom in the EFL Cup on Wednesday boosted confidence as Arsenal ran out 6-0 winners, led by a hat-trick from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Asked by Sky Sports what pleased him most, Arteta – whose side host AFC Wimbledon in round three – replied: “The attitude that the team had, right from the beginning, right from the warm-up, the way that they’ve been working, the togetherness that there is around the team. We’re all disappointed that we haven’t won any of the two games in the Premier League, but [I am happy with] the attitude of the players and how together they are.”
“When you lose, the most important thing is to win the next match. As quick as possible, win, get some confidence, get a clean sheet, score some good goals – players that needed goals, as well, players that needed minutes. In general, it was a very positive night.”
