English team Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1–0 in the title match in Portugal on Saturday to win the UEFA Champions League title. Chelsea has won this title for the second time. However, it has taken the team a long time to win the second title, as they have been the champions earlier in 2012.
The two teams have been face-to-face for the first time in the final of this league, in which the London club won against Manchester City. At the same time, City did not win this title even once. Manchester City had a chance to become Champions, but the team missed out on the title.
In this All English Final, Chelsea became Champions League winner in the first half and took a 1-0 lead. When there were three minutes left for the first half to end, Kai Havertz scored a goal to put Chelsea ahead. Mason Mount was the mastermind, seeing a gap in the City defence and sending a pinpoint through-ball for Havertz, who rounded Ederson and tucked home three minutes before halftime.
Kai played a key role for Chelsea scoring his first goal in the Champions League. The midfielder joined the Blues side leaving the German League – Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, City captain Kevin de Brunye had to return from the field due to injury after he crashed with Rudiger, who received a yellow card. City’s main striker Sergio Aguero came on the pitch but failed to help the team win.
Cristian Pulisic had his chance to score the second goal for the club in the 73rd minute but when City’s goalkeeper Ederson Moraes defended well.
The match was also seen as a strategic duel between two of the world’s leading managers, Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola. Tuchel has done a lot of work on his team’s defense and it was seen in the finals even when City’s good strikers were not able to score goals. Guardiola made a change in the team that led City to the finals, which overshadowed them.
