Lazio forward Ciro Immobile closed to the Series A goal-scoring record for a single season when he was on target, in the 2-0 win over relegated Brescia on Wednesday.
In the 2015-16 campaign, Immobile took his tally to 35 for the season, one short of Napoli’s record of 36 for Gonzalo Higuain. Saturday’s final match with Lazio is away to Napoli.
Lazio guaranteed a top-four finish and stayed fourth on their head-to-head record with 78 points behind Atalanta.
In the 17th minute, Immobile was involved in Lazio’s first goal by exchanging passes with Joaquin Correa who weaved his way through several defenders before scoring from close range. Lazio suffered a dip in form and following the re-start of the season, Lazio started to look more like their old selves, creating several chances for their lead.
Before ending up on the scoresheet, Immobile skimmed the post in the 82nd minute from a tight angle from Correa’s pass.
