Chelsea put forward options to sign the Argentine superstar. Chelsea reportedly contacted Enzo Fernandez‘s agent and expressed interest in bringing the Argentine to the Premier League in January. The 21-year-old ‘Best Young Player’ of the FIFA World Cup is being chased away from Benfica by Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid.
According to Simon Phillips’ report, Chelsea appears to have joined the chase group after negotiating with the player’s middlemen. They have laid the basis for pursuing the Argentine player and formally expressed their desire to sign him. Since moving from River Plate to the Estadio da Luz this summer for under €12 million, Fernandez has been a revelation. In 24 games across various leagues, he has three goals and five assists to his credit.
The combative midfielder was called up to the Argentina team for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar thanks to his efforts for Roger Schmidt’s squad. He was exceptional for La Albiceleste in the middle of the field, contributing an assist and one goal in seven games.
Fernandez won the Best Player prize for his performance during the competition, and he received a lot of accolades. Fernandez was praised by Argentina’s manager Lionel Scaloni, who said: “Enzo Fernandez is a very talented player. Beyond what Benfica has demonstrated, we were previously aware of his potential the previous year when he was a member of the National Team. We’re content with him.
The €120 million release clause in Fernandez’s contract has an expiration date of 2027. Despite the tremendous interest from top European teams, Benfica is remaining steadfast over his clause.
