Napoli could fire head coach Gennaro Gattuso as soon as this month, claims SportMediaset.
The 43-year-old’s future will be decided by the club president Aurelio De Laurentiis based on the results of matches against Atalanta (in the Italian Cup) and Juventus (in Serie A).
Gattuso is likely to be sent off if the results are unsatisfactory, and Rafael Benitez or Walter Mazzarri, who has already worked for the club, could be brought in to replace him.
It was previously reported that De Laurentiis and Gattuso’s relationship had soured. The Neapolitan president would like to see Benitez as the team’s coach.
With Napoli and Juventus clashing on February 13 the Italian Cup semi-final first leg at Atalanta will be played on February 10.
