Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun leaves England for the USA. Ahead of the USA hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2026, Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun has decided to change his nationality from England to the USA.
Balogun, 21, has scored seven goals in 13 games while playing for the Three Lions at the U21 level. However, according to trade specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Arsenal forward on loan at Stade Reims is moving to the United States.
The young striker left New York at the age of 2 to move to the UK. This season, he has been in outstanding form for Reims, scoring 20 goals in 36 games across all competitions. He now holds a joint-fifth-place finish in the Ligue 1 scoring charts with 19 league goals.
Nevertheless, despite his outstanding goal-scoring performances this year, England manager Gareth Southgate refrained from promoting him to the senior squad. He would have faced stiff competition to make the Three Lions team. Currently, available candidates are Harry Kane, Callum Wilson, Ivan Toney, and Tammy Abraham.
Balogun will thus have the opportunity to launch his worldwide senior career by moving to the USA. The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the Stars and Stripes. Before the competition, he might become a star for Gregg Berhalter’s team. The forward reportedly took his time choosing his choice, but he will now play for the North American nation.
As his loan with Reims expires at the end of the season, there is also doubt over his club’s future. According to reports, Arsenal will demand £35 million for his services this summer. Interest has been expressed in Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal might be able to play against Nottingham Forest:
After a demoralizing 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday (May 14) at the Emirates, Arsenal’s title chances are in jeopardy. With a victory over Chelsea this weekend, Manchester City, who currently lead the league by four points, will be proclaimed champions.
Gabriel Martinelli did sustain an injury, though, as a result of the Gunners’ defeat to Brighton. Following a first-half challenge from Moises Caicedo, the Brazilian forward was forced to leave the pitch. On the bench, he could be seen watching his team lose the championship while sporting a protective boot.
Martinelli would have scans done, according to Mikel Arteta, to determine the severity of the injury. Gary O’Driscoll, the team’s physio, allayed concerns by appearing to say the problem isn’t too serious (via Nottingham Live): “Sore. A terrible, shameful foul. He is a little sore, but he should be fine, despite that.”
Martinelli might therefore be ready to take on Forest at the City Ground on May 20. A loss for Arsenal will give City the title, which has major repercussions for the league.
