Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko issues Man City a title warning. Oleksandr Zinchenko, an Arsenal player, issued a title warning to Manchester City because he believed anything was possible in the Premier League.
With a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, the Gunners picked up their first victory in five games, helping them to reclaim first place in the league standings.
Mikel Arteta’s team leads the league with 78 points after 34 games, although City, who are in second with 76 points, have two games in hand. Up until the beginning of April, Arsenal was confidently cruising towards their first league championship since 2004, but after hitting a tough patch, they lost the lead to the incumbents.
Their prospects of winning the title were all but over after three straight draws (2-2 against Liverpool, 2-2 against West Ham, and 3-3 against Southampton), a 4-1 loss to City, and three more draws.
Arsenal, though, defeated derby rivals Chelsea last night to signal that they are prepared to push the title fight to the very end. Zinchenko, who participated in the game for 73 minutes, warned his previous team City that “everything” might happen in the division and vowed to “keep fighting” for their goal.
After the game, he told the media (according to Mirror): “Everything is possible in this league, and we still have a few games left to play. You can’t be sure. We must continue the fight because we put in a lot of effort this season.”
“The Chelsea victory is crucial for us to get back into a routine, for the tone in the locker room, and also for our standing in the league. So let’s move forward.”
On Sunday, Arsenal will play again in the Premier League when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
Arsenal wants to earn the most points possible:
Arsenal’s confidence has returned following their resounding 3-1 victory over Chelsea, and they will now strive to finish with 90 points, which is the best possible result.
The next opponent is high-flying Newcastle, so it won’t be simple. The Magpies have won four of their last five games, including their past three, and are competing for a Champions League position.
The Gunners then play a determined Brighton team that has defeated Wolverhampton in their most recent game, held Manchester United without a goal in the FA Cup semifinals, and defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
It will be interesting to watch whether the Gunners can build on their victory from Tuesday or if they once again buckle under pressure.
