Bruno Fernandes doesn’t agree with Ronaldo’s claims. The Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes has denied Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim that Portugal’s new boss Roberto Martinez has given them a breath of fresh air.
After Selecao’s elimination from the FIFA World Cup in December of last year, Fernando Santos decided to terminate his eight-year run as the team’s head coach. Martinez was selected as the new manager by the Portuguese Football Association after considering a number of applicants.
Last week, Portugal beat Liechtenstein 4-0 in their inaugural match under Martinez. They won 6-0 against Luxembourg the following day in another crushing performance. (March 26).
Thus, under the guidance of the Spanish strategist, Cristiano Ronaldo, the company has had a successful start to life. The hero of Al-Nassr recently claimed that the former Belgium head coach brings new life to the group.
Fernandes, however, asserts that contrary to what his captain indicated, the Selecao has never needed some fresh air. The Manchester United attacker continued by saying that he is aware of the transition the national squad is going through.
According to Fernandes, “No, it’s just a new coach with new ideas,” as quoted by Yahoo! Sport. “There is absolutely no pure air. It’s just a phase of change.”
“The national squad has always had a positive atmosphere. There has never been anything that hasn’t been brand new, so I believe it’s just new dynamics with a new teacher that you have to get used to.”
The team’s method under Martinez was further explained by Fernandes, who said [per Record]: “Obviously it (the new system) is different, it has different dynamics. Each of us has the unique power to change the world. We saw that substitutions always make an impact even today (Sunday; ed.). Both yesterday and today, they did.”
We have a very complete lineup, and the coach is aware of that. He also understands that by changing one, two, three, four, or five players, the team’s capacity or quality would remain the same or improve.
Portugal won’t play again until the upcoming June international recess. Together with Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo has appeared in 42 games for Portugal. The two have even scored four goals for the squad as a pair.
But it’s important to remember that they once shared a dressing area at Manchester United. After Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils for a second stint in 2021, they were partners at the club level. They contributed to three goals while playing 51 games together for Manchester United.
