Manchester City offered a new deal to Fabrizio Romano. According to reputable football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is preparing to extend Ilkay Gundogan’s contract despite rumors linking him to Barcelona.
In recent months, there have been persistent rumors that Gundogan is leaving Etihad, with Camp Nou appearing to be his most likely destination. Barcelona’s chances of signing the five-time Premier League champion, though, maybe shattered because Manchester City is expected to extend their star player’s contract.
According to Romano, the Sky Blues are planning to offer Gundogan a new contract until June 2024 with an option for an additional season, possibly through June 2025. Additionally, he has claimed that the midfielder has already received an offer from the Blaugrana, but the German has not yet made up his mind.
With Xavi Hernandez being a major fan of the 32-year-old, Gundogan has been extensively linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months. Gundogan reportedly sought a lengthier contract but was pleased with Barca’s three-year offer.
Nevertheless, Manchester City is thought to be eager to keep its captain after his outstanding performances this season, particularly in the last few weeks.
Since joining the team in 2016 as part of a £20 million transaction, Gundogan has been an important member of the team. During his time at the Etihad, he has already won 12 trophies, including five Premier League championships.
With 301 appearances for the Cityzens over the years, Gundogan, who presently wears the armband, has tallied 58 goals and 40 assists. In 48 games across tournaments this season, he has nine goals and seven assists.
Xavi, the manager of Barcelona, responds to the UCL semifinal between Real Madrid and Manchester City:
Manchester City’s victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, according to Barcelona manager Xavi, was well-deserved. On May 17, the Sky Blues secured a decisive 4-0 victory at the Etihad to win the semifinal 5-1 overall.
When asked to comment on the game, Xavi said Manchester City was the rightful winner that night. The Barcelona manager stated at a recent press conference (via Barca Universal):
“It must have been a thrill for the Cules, but as professionals, we place a lot of value on La Liga. The importance of witnessing the fans’ happiness is greater than Madrid losing. The semi-final victors, Man City, were deserving winners. They are the world’s top team, in my opinion.”
This season, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team hopes to complete a historic triple. In addition to reaching the FA Cup and Champions League finals, they have already won the Premier League title.
