Gianluigi Donnarumma has officially joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) exiting his boyhood club AC Milan. It is noted that the Rossoneri failed to persuade Donnarumma to sign a new contract. Former Milan goalkeeper moved to PSG on a free transfer for 5 years. He will stay with the Ligue 1 giants until 2026 after agreeing on a five-year-long deal.
At his new club, the Italian goalkeeper will join Real Madrid’s defender Sergio Ramos and Inter’s defender Achraf Hakimi. Donnarumma became Italy’s Euro 2020 hero after saving two back to back England penalties in the final of the European tournament. His national team Italy won the Euro Cup defeating England on 3-2 penalties.
PSG confirmed the signing on their official website, as Donnarumma said: “I am delighted to be part of this huge club. “I feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here. With Paris, I want to win as much as possible and to bring joy to the supporters.”
The French Giants took over their Instagram handle to announce the football transfer news on social media. The club wrote: “Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that #GianluigiDonnarumma has joined the club. The Italian goalkeeper has signed a five-year contract until 30 June 2026. Le Paris Saint-Germain est heureux d’annoncer l’arrivée dans son effectif de @gigiodonna99. Le gardien de but italien a signé un contrat de cinq ans et est lié au Club jusqu’au 30 juin 2026.”
Last season Donnarumma helped Milan finish second in Serie A to secure Champions League qualification for the first time since 2013-14. Donnarumma, who was crowned Player of the Tournament, made his football debut at the age of 16 in 2015 with Serie A side AC Milan. In five seasons at Milan, Donnarumma won Supercoppa Italiana in 2016 and was voted the league’s best goalkeeper in his final campaign.
PSG chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: “We are delighted to welcome Gianluigi Donnarumma to Paris Saint-Germain. “We congratulate him on his UEFA Euro 2020 success and winning Player of the Tournament. I know Gianluigi will receive a warm Parisian welcome from everyone at the club, including his team-mates, our staff and all the supporters.”
