Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was named European Champion and player of the tournament in Euro 2020, is leaving his boyhood club AC Milan. Italian goalkeeper saved two England penalties in Euro 2020 final leading his national team to win the Euro Cup. The 22-year-old Donnarumma bids adieu to Milan ahead of an alleged move to Paris Saint-Germain as he prepares for a career change in order to take new challenges to grow. It is surprising to learn about the football transfer of Donnarumma from Rossoneri where he has spent all his football career to date.
Former Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is close to joining Ligue 1 club, took to social media to publish a farewell letter to Rossoneri fans. He posted a video highlighting his journey at AC Milan since he joined the club in 2015. He wrote on Instagram, “Sometimes it’s difficult to make a choice, but it’s part of a person’s development. I came to Milan almost as a child. For eight years I wore the jersey with pride.”
“We fought, we endured, we won, we cried, we rejoiced together with our teammates and coaches. Everyone who did it, as well as our fans, have also been an integral part of our family over the years. In a Rossoneri shirt, I also achieved important personal achievements, such as my Serie A debut at the age of 16. I have had some great years here which I will never forget.”
“Now, the time has come to part ways. Sometimes change is the right thing to do. I take on new challenges to grow and improve. All the Rossoneri I met from my first to my last day at the club will remain forever in my heart as an important and truly fundamental part of the journey of life that has made me the man I have become. I wish Milan every possible success and I do so with all my heart. Love binds me to these colours, a feeling that defies neither distance nor time,” he added.
The then 16-year-old arrived at AC Milan in 2015, becoming the second-youngest goalkeeper ever to debut in Serie A. Donnarumma’s impressive performance at Euro 2020 earned him a place in the UEFA Team of the tournament.
