Inter defender Matteo Darmian believes Edin Dzeko will help the Nerazzurri despite the departure of Romelu Lukaku. He also hopes to see Christian Eriksen back in action soon. On Sunday the Nerazzurri will face Sampdoria at Marassi and have started their post-Conte era with back-to-back victories over Genoa and Hellas Verona.
Darmian told Sky Sport Italia, “We wanted to start in the best way, despite the many changes. We’ve created a solid group and a winning mentality. [Simone] Inzaghi has brought his ideas, continuing the work of [Antonio] Conte. We are trying to put into practice what he is telling us. The pitch will say if we are the favourites to win the league, we can only work and think about ourselves.”
Last season, the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title, but Conte, Lukaku, and Achraf Hakimi all left during the summer transfer window. However, the Serie A champions strengthened their squad by signing Edin Dzeko, Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Joaquin Correa.
the former Manchester United defender said, “Dzeko and Lukaku are different players, but they are both very strong. I am sure Edin will help us this season by scoring many goals. Calhanoglu and Eriksen are more similar, perhaps Christian moves towards the ball in a deeper position, while Hakan likes to finish the attack.”
“It’s nice to talk about Chris in a positive way, we want to see him back in action. He’s given us so much positive energy and we’ve tried to do the same with him. We are all waiting for him,” he continued.
Former Manchester United defender, Darmian also shared his thoughts on Cristiano Ronaldo’s football transfer return to Old Trafford. The former Juventus star is set to make his Red Devils debut against Newcastle on Saturday. “Ronaldo still has a lot to give, I wish him and Manchester United the best and I hope United can win something important soon,” he concluded.
