Sergio Aguero says Messi shouldn’t be compared to Maradona. Lionel Messi’s comparison to Diego Maradona, according to Sergio Aguero, is something he has “never enjoyed.” The former Manchester City forward responded to parallels between the two Argentine greats by stating that they should simply be admired as individual individuals rather than being continually contrasted.
The newly retired striker told Stake.com, “I never liked the parallels.” It also doesn’t matter who is a bigger symbol. In the hearts of Argentines, each one holds a special place. I prefer to reflect on how fortunate we Argentines are to have Diego and Leo, both of whom were among the greatest players in history during their respective eras.
In addition to designating Messi as his child’s godfather, Aguero has a close bond with the former international teammate. With 17 total appearances for Argentina, it is obvious how close the pair is off the field as well. Between 2008 and 2012, Aguero wed Giannina, the daughter of Maradona.
Aguero might have been traveling to Qatar as a participant instead of a spectator if it weren’t for his early retirement. Since Messi is expected to play a significant role in Argentina’s World Cup campaign, which begins on November 22 against Saudi Arabia, he will undoubtedly be there to support his nation.
