Joe Shields has officially been hired by Chelsea as their new co-director of talent and recruitment. After appointing Laurence Stewart as technical director on Wednesday, Chelsea appointed Shields as co-director of recruitment and talent. Shields will enlist after his duties with Southampton are finished. Since taking over Chelsea in the summer, owner Todd Boehly has sought to make significant changes. In addition to replacing head coach Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter only a few weeks into the season, he has promoted other new employees to important roles.
Joe is yet another fantastic addition to Chelsea, and we are happy to have him on board, Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali remarked on the Chelsea website. We will adopt a cutting-edge, data-driven attitude with a clear goal that is centered on the best emerging talent. We are putting together a strong management group that works well together and is motivated to create a long-lasting champion at Chelsea. Joe has a strong track record and an in-depth knowledge of the sport and new talent. We are certain that we have another capable leader and team player who will support us as we continue to develop our elite football organization.
With recent hires meant to advance the team off the field, the Blues are looking to the future, but their responsibilities on the field aren’t being neglected. The team’s next matchups are in the Premier League against Potter’s former team, Brighton, and the Champions League group stage against Dinamo Zagreb the following week.
