Ajax star wants to stay with his club. Mohammed Kudus‘ declaration that he wants to stay with Ajax has hampered Manchester United’s efforts to sign him, according to De Telegraaf. The 22-year-old Ghanaian international has been in excellent form lately, contributing two assists and six goals over his last eight Eredivisie games.
This has increased rumors that he might join Old Trafford this summer, with United manager Erik ten Hag apparently eager to sign him.
Kudus, however, has recently expressed his happiness with Ajax and even made suggestions that he might accept a contract extension. I am very happy at Ajax right now, but I will be even happier if we achieve the double, Kudus said in response to a question from De Telegraaf about his future and the possibility of extending his stay in Amsterdam. I want to continue, so why wouldn’t I? I perform well and grow. Negotiation and value are now involved.
He also stressed that his agent is in charge of the contract extension talks and that he is currently only focused on the championship race. He continued, “We’ll see how it goes when the moment is right. But I’ll have to talk to my representative about that. I want to give the title contest my full attention.
Additionally, Kudus admitted his disappointment at Ajax’s decision to block a potential transfer to Everton last summer, but he maintained his “full focus was back on Ajax” as soon as the window closed. He added, “I was disappointed that Ajax prevented a transfer to Everton last summer. I didn’t play here, so I figured it was time for a fresh chapter in my career. But as soon as the transfer market shut down, I turned my entire attention back to Ajax.
The information is disappointing for Manchester United, who allegedly kept an eye on Kudus as a potential acquisition to cover for and compete with Antony and Jadon Sancho.
It is unclear whether United will continue their pursuit or shift their focus elsewhere given that the Ghanaian appears content at Ajax and is focused on supporting the team in defending their Eredivisie championship.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Ajax is considering extending Mohammed Kudus’ deal until 2028 despite interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The 22-year-old forward has performed admirably for Ajax since joining from Danish team FC Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2020, tallying 23 goals and nine helpers in 77 games. The Eredivisie juggernauts are eager to sign Kudus to a lengthy contract in order to put off any prospective suitors. Kudus has indicated a desire to remain in Ajax.
