Lionel Messi is to be suspended by PSG for two weeks. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a member of Ligue 1, has suspended Lionel Messi for two weeks, reports RMC Sport. The alarming information was revealed when the Argentinian forward defied club authority and traveled to Saudi Arabia with his family.
The seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or played for PSG in their 3-1 loss to Lorient at Parc des Princes. According to L’Equipe, Lionel Messi went to Saudi Arabia with his family against the opposition of Christophe Galtier and Luis Campos.
Ahmed Al-Khateeb, the minister of tourism for Saudi Arabia, gave the 2022 FIFA World Cup victor a cordial greeting. The PSG administration, however, took issue with his decision to forego training to go on his trip.
According to the French publication RMC Sport, PSG has decided to immediately suspend Lionel Messi for two weeks for his unapproved vacation. They further stated that the entire incident was viewed as a “serious mistake” within the club and that they would make no further comments.
As a result, Lionel Messi won’t play in PSG’s upcoming matches against Troyes (May 7) and Ajaccio (May 13). He won’t be paid during the ban term and won’t be allowed to work out with the team.
With 75 points, PSG is now in first place in Ligue 1, five points clear of second-place Marseille. The club’s discussions with Messi won’t be made any easier by the megastar’s suspension as his contract is due to expire in the summer. Reuniting with Barcelona under former teammate Xavi Hernandez is expected for the 35-year-old.
Messi’s PSG performance thus far this year:
Let’s look at Lionel Messi’s statistics for Les Parisiens this season even though he is presently making news for all the wrong reasons due to his suspension.
After being ejected from Barcelona owing to their financial difficulties, the Argentine megastar left Barcelona and signed with the French team in August 2021. As he adapted to the new league, Messi had a relatively quiet season by his standards, scoring just 11 goals in 34 appearances. But he did succeed in capturing the Ligue 1 championship.
On a personal level, Messi’s 2022–23 season has been significantly more successful thus far. He has so far made 37 appearances for PSG and contributed to their quest for a second league championship by scoring 20 goals and dishing out 19 assists.
Messi has endured boos and jeers from the home crowd despite his best efforts, and he is unlikely to agree to a new contract with the team.
