Donnarumma was among the players that were blamed for the early exit, and in speaking to PSG TV ahead of the club’s Ligue 1 away fixture against Clermont Foot, it was quite a difficult moment for him at this stage in his career.
Paris Saint-Germain entered the season as a heavy favourite to go on and win the UEFA Champions League.
However, the French side’s aspirations of finally winning the competition once again came to a crashing end in the round of 16, as it was eliminated by Real Madrid last month.
Donnarumma said:
“Yes, it was hard, it was very hard.
“We understand the dissatisfaction of the supporters, but we also know that unfortunately, it’s football.
“We have to move on and we are. It’s difficult, but in this team, there are only great players.
“And We are all sad about the Champions League, but we also have to look to the future.”
Donnarumma continued:
“It’s important to us because it’s our goal.
“It would be the 10th title in the history of this club, it is obviously very important for us to finish well and win it.
“These are eight decisive matches and we have to take them very seriously.
“We know that all the matches will be difficult, so we will have to be 100 per cent to win them.
“There will be a battle until the end but we have to give everything for ourselves.
“But also for our supporters who support us.”
Donnarumma did not have much to go his way in March, which also included Italy failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup final following its home playoff loss to North Macedonia.
The Italian goalkeeper kicked off April on the right note by taking part in PSG’s 5-1 league win over Lorient.
And now he could go on to feature against Clermont Foot on matchday 31.
