Luka Modric reveals his Real Madrid retirement. Luka Modric, the captain of Croatia, has spoken about his desire to hang up his boots at Real Madrid when he retires from club football. Since joining Real Madrid in 2012, Luka Modric has been a revelation for them, playing an astounding 454 games for them in various tournaments. Among other achievements, he has aided Los Blancos in winning three La Liga championships and five Champions League trophies.
At Madrid, Modric is seen as an irreplaceable player, but his future is uncertain. The Croatian international’s contract expires in June 2023, so the Whites must move soon to keep him from leaving for nothing. The 37-year-old midfield maestro is now representing his country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He was questioned about his plans for the future.
Modric said: “My future? There is time to discuss that. I’m now concentrating on the World Cup. Naturally, I would like to end my career with Real Madrid. It’s my fantasy.” Under Carlo Ancelotti, Modric has been a constant, appearing in 18 games across all competitions and contributing five goals and two assists.
In Qatar, Croatia’s 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has been in outstanding form. In the quarterfinals, Croatia eliminated five-time champion Brazil thanks to his inspirational performance (4-2 on penalties; 1-1 after extra time).
Josko Gvardiol, a defender for Croatia, has been one of the tournament’s best performers. He has established himself as one of Qatar’s most forward-thinking defenders and has been precise with his defensive interventions. Igor Jovicevic, Gvardiol’s previous coach, is rumored to desire the RB Leipzig defender to join Los Blancos, who are reportedly interested in making a deal for him in the future.
He could play for any elite club, according to the Shakhtar Donetsk coach. Igor Jovićević also said: “If it were up to me, I would prefer that he went to Real Madrid over PSG or Barcelona. I’m not interested in hearing anything else. Furthermore, even if I can see why they waited for him to develop a little more, I’m shocked Real Madrid didn’t sign him two or three years ago. The 20-year-old has not yet scored at the FIFA World Cup 2022, but he has started the 2022–23 season off at Leipzig. For the German club, he has made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring once.”
