Andres Iniesta to make a come back to Barcelona. Andres Iniesta, a former team midfielder, said he would dearly love to play for Barcelona again in the future. This follows the former Spain international’s mid-season decision to quit the Japanese club, Vissel Kobe.
Iniesta acknowledged that the likelihood of returning to the Nou Camp is still far off, despite saying he would like to do so in the future. This could mean that Iniesta wants to join the coaching staff at the club where he first played.
According to a quote from the 39-year-old midfielder (found on Barca Universal): “I’ve mentioned it before, but I’d love to go back to Barcelona at some point in my life. However, I still feel that it is far away.”
While playing for the team, Andres Iniesta and current Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez formed a fantastic midfield relationship. Therefore, Iniesta wants the La Liga-winning manager of the Catalan giants to continue leading them for a very long time.
He added: “Xavi coaching for a long time would be fantastic for football, so that is my main wish.”
Andres Iniesta still desires to play football and has no immediate intentions to put up his boots despite leaving Vissel Kobe. Regarding his near future, Iniesta stated: “I’d like to continue playing football. I believe I still have the ability to play. We’ll see what’s possible when this chapter comes to a close, though. This is what I’m aiming to do to end my playing career on the pitch.”
Andres Iniesta will play his final match for Vissel Kobe on July 1 against Consadole Sapporo, according to Barca Universal. The World Cup champion from 2010 joined the Japanese team in 2018, leaving Barcelona on a free transfer.
Iniesta has made 133 appearances with Vissel Kobe as of this writing, and in those games, he has contributed 26 goals and 25 assists. The Emperor’s Cup in 2019 and the Japanese Super Cup a year later were the only two trophies the former star of Spain managed to win while living in Japan.
One of Barcelona’s all-time most-honored athletes is Andres Iniesta:
Andres Iniesta now ranks fourth among Barcelona’s appearance makers with 674 games played for the team in all competitions. Only his former colleagues Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, and Sergio Busquets are ahead of the former Spain international on the list.
At Barcelona, Iniesta enjoyed a trophy-filled career. With 32 trophies won in a total of 16 seasons, Goal ranked the midfield maestro as the second-most successful player in the club’s history in 2022.
Along with other achievements, Andres Iniesta went on to win nine La Liga championships, six Copa De Reys, four UEFA Champions League championships, and three UEFA Super Cups. He is the Blaugrana’s most decorated player, only behind Messi. During his stay at the Nou Camp, he also went on to score 57 goals and provide 137 assists.
