The 67th edition of Europe’s highest football Champions League 21-22 season begins on Tuesday with a group stage. As always, this time also a total of 32 teams of the tournament have been divided into eight groups. Out of which the top two teams will travel to the final through the last-16 and then the quarter-finals, and the semi-finals. Also know Champions League football fixtures as the tournament kicks off on 14th September.
This time the final match will be played on 28 May 2022 at the Krestovsky Stadium in St. Petersburg, Russia. However, on the first day of the start of the group stage, Germany’s club Bayern Munich will face Spanish club Barcelona late on Tuesday, mainly in Group E.
In this way, after many years, Barcelona’s team will enter the Champions League field without Lionel Messi, who will be seen playing for his newly signed team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Whereas for Bayern Munich all eyes will be on Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona is no longer as strong a team as it was two years ago. They have done well as a team unit, but Messi will probably be sorely missed in this year’s Champions League match. At the same time, Bayern Munich’s team looks very strong. Last year’s German league Bundesliga champion team will try their best to win the Champions League title this time.
Last season, Munich had lost to PSG in the quarter-finals due to the away goals rule. A total of 13 matches have been played between these two teams so far, out of which Munich and Barcelona have won only three times in eight. In the 2020 quarter-finals Champions League match, Munich had badly beaten Barcelona 8-2.
In other matches, defending champions English Premier League (EPL) side Chelsea will face St Petersburg in Group H on late night, while Manchester United, who recently included Ronaldo, will face Young Boys in Group F.
