Barcelona played a 1-1 draw at their home stadium against Granada on Monday. Granada was minutes away from their second win at the Camp Nou in two seasons. Barca coach Ronald Koeman “will not answer any questions about the future”, when Ronald Araujo’s header saved a point for his poor Barcelona side against Granada.
Playing as an improvised striker central defender Araujo found the net right at the end of the football match. Granada took the lead just in the second minute with a header from Domingos Duarte. Granada will be disappointed that they didn’t win their first of the season – and their second win in two seasons at Nou Camp – after dealing with the hosts’ aerial bombardment for so long.
The final whistle was greeted by the local crowd, who were disappointed with the result and unimpressed by the straightforward playing style of the hosts. Overall, Barca sent a remarkable 45 open crosses into the game in search of a draw, with only a shot by Sergi Roberto and a brilliant header by Araujo saved by Luis Maximiano to show off their efforts in the first half.
Only in the second period, with defenders, Gerard Pique and Araujo pushing with substitute striker Luc de Jong, the visiting defender’s line was tested accurately and consistently. It looked like de Jong dismissed the golden opportunity, somehow going inside the six-yard box, but Araujo led the way with a mixed and well-timed effort.
