Varane explains Manchester’s plan to tackle Haaland. According to Raphael Varane, Manchester United intends to stop Kevin De Bruyne from passing to Erling Haaland at the FA Cup final on June 3rd. They don’t fear the Premier League champions, the French central defender continued.
The two Manchester clubs are continuing in action even though the Premier League season is over. For a chance to win their second domestic trophy of the year, both teams will compete in the FA Cup final.
Varane asserted that he did not fear Manchester City in an interview with the Daily Mirror before the game. He stated: “Fear? No. Why? Each game presents a challenge. I enjoy pushing myself and other teams to their limits. Believing is the most crucial thing. No matter how well or poorly the opposing team is playing, we must accept the challenge and do everything in our power to prevail. I enjoy taking on significant difficulties, especially when they seem insurmountable. When the challenge is significant, both the team and I become more motivated.”
Varane responded when asked about United’s strategies for preventing the Cityzens from scoring that it was essential to block De Bruyne from connecting with Haaland. Added him: “We are all aware of how talented Haaland is, but City poses a constant threat. They are capable of scoring via set plays, possession games, and transition games. We are aware that we must stop them as a team and as a whole. We’ll aim to break up the connection because, for a defender, it can be challenging to stop a pass with De Bruyne. Because occasionally it’s too late to stop them, we’ll endeavor to do so earlier rather than later. We are aware that our team needs to be powerful.”
Manchester United split their two Premier League matches against City this year, winning one and losing the other. The Red Devils avenged their October 2022 6-3 loss at the Etihad with a 2-1 victory in January 2023 at Old Trafford.
When Manchester City plays Manchester United, a domestic double is at stake:
Manchester City, who currently have the Premier League championship, will compete in the FA Cup final for their second trophy of the year. Later this month, will play one more game as they compete in the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul against Inter Milan.
Manchester United is also seeking their second championship of the year. They defeated Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in February to win it for themselves.
The fact that Pep Guardiola’s team needs just two more victories to match Manchester United’s 1999 treble-winning season under Sir Alex Ferguson gives the Red Devils an extra incentive to defeat the Cityzens. Erik Ten Hag’s team will have to rely on Inter Milan to prevent the triple if they do not win the FA Cup.
