Gakpo shares Curtis Jones is the one he is hanging out with. Cody Gakpo, a new forward for Liverpool, identified Curtis Jones as the teammate he has spent the most time with since joining the team. The Dutch forward made a high-profile transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Anfield in January for an estimated initial fee of £35 million.
Gakpo, though, hasn’t had the best of starts in Jurgen Klopp’s squad thus far, as the young player has found it difficult to demonstrate his abilities on the field. However, he claimed that he is adjusting to his new club pretty well and that his teammates have been quite supportive.
He added, “It’s a pretty wonderful group,” in an interview with Liverpool that was broadcast on Rousing the Kop. Everyone has been really helpful to me and has made an effort to help me feel as at home as they can. I occasionally hang out with Curtis [Jones] and other players, including Ibrahima Konate. Everybody is polite and helps me, so that’s great.”
Gakpo will be eager to begin playing for Liverpool as soon as possible because the Anfield giants haven’t been playing their best this year. After a relatively sluggish first half of the season, an in-form Gakpo could be just what the Reds need to revive their 2022–23 football campaign.
Despite Gakpo’s slow start to life at Anfield, the German strategist has praised his new acquisition. Before joining the Reds, the Dutchman was among the greatest players in the Eredivisie. He hasn’t been able to fully express his goal-scoring prowess at Anfield, though.
Despite making 24 appearances for his former team PSV this season and contributing to 14 goals and 17 assists, the forward is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool. Nevertheless, Klopp has defended the underwhelming forward, claiming that his defensive play has been rather impressive.
He said: “His defense is amazing” in an interview that was shown in This is Anfield. You might argue that we purchased a striker while discussing defense, but the defense in this position is excellent. What we really need is this strategic location. Everyone on this team is accustomed to the fact that there will always be onlookers when the ball moves wide and inside to the No. 6 position.”
Gakpo is a sharp player who is constantly eager to learn, he concluded, adding: “But, of course, inside it’s all great. He’s OK. Since he is intelligent, eager to learn, and a good listener, everything is alright with him.” On January 29, Liverpool will travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup’s fourth round.
