Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shared his thoughts following the Europa League final against Villarreal. Manchester United ended the 2020-21 Premier League season in second place after Manchester City.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Europa League final loss
“We couldn’t get involved and didn’t play as well as we could have. I think we started well, but the opponents scored with their only shot on goal. Of course, we are disappointed that we missed again after a standard,” the coach told UEFA official website.
“They didn’t let us play, they shut down the areas, defended well. We did not create enough chances. Now is not the time to point out what I would have done differently. But when you are left without a trophy, it means you have not done everything right. We are getting closer and closer, getting better and better. We were just one step away from the trophy. The only way to get what you want is to get better.”
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that it had not been a successful season for the club after losing 11-10 on penalties to Villarreal in the Europa League final.
Speaking to Sky Sports Solskjaer said, “We just need to get better. We’ve done well this season, going through a tough start, not having a pre-season, losing three of our first six games. We pressed on in the APL and got closer to the top than we thought we could. And we got to the finals, but those finals have to be won for the season to be a success.”
“We have to progress, work better, harder and smarter. But we need two or three players to strengthen the starting line-up or even the whole squad. This is important to move forward. I’m sure our competitors want to get better as well. And we will progress as much as we can.”
