Fenerbahce interested in a move for Eric Bailly. Fenerbahce of Turkey is allegedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.
OZEL, a Turkish publication, claims that Sar Kanaryalar is interested in Bailly, whose future at Old Trafford appears to be dismal. The Ivorian defender’s deal with the Red Devils expires after one year.
Bailly spent the previous campaign on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1. He appeared in 23 games across all competitions, contributing to six shutouts for Igor Tudor’s team.
Bailly’s loan move included a buy-obligation, but the conditions weren’t met. The 29-year-old is now returning to Manchester United but may make a long-term move this summer.
According to reports, the Red Devils are willing to trade Bailly for as little as £2 million. The Ivorian was acquired by them in 2016 for £30 million from La Liga team Villarreal.
Other European teams besides Fenerbahce are allegedly keeping an eye on his status, including Real Betis. Under Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford, it appears unlikely that Bailly will have a future.
While playing for the Red Devils, Bailly frequently had ailments. In seven years with the Premier League powerhouses, he has made just 113 appearances while also winning the Europa League and League Cup.
Gareth Southgate implies Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, may not play for England in the future:
Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, is another defender who might leave Old Trafford this summer. The blossoming partnership between Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez prevented the England international from seeing much action last season.
Maguire helped his team keep ten clean sheets by starting eight of the 16 league games. Under Ten Hag, he has dropped down the food chain, which might have an impact on his international career.
Gareth Southgate, the manager of the Three Lions, has intimated that the 30-year-old would require more playing time given the fight for spots in the national team.
The defender, though, received plaudits from England’s manager (via CaughtOffside): “It’s extremely obvious. Harry and Kalvin (Phillips), in my opinion, are the two players on this team who have played the fewest games this year, but we still decided to utilize them because, in these two positions, we believe they are still superior to others who may have played more.”
With multiple defenders vying for a starting position, Southgate cast doubt on Maguire’s position in his starting lineup: “When the competition becomes more level, it becomes difficult to judge a player’s form or level of fitness if you don’t play consistently.”
When representing England, Maguire frequently conveys a sense of being considerably more dependable and less stressed. He moved to Manchester United in 2019, becoming the most expensive defender in the world after paying £85 million.
That transfer, though, has raised questions about his competence. He has performed considerably better for the Three Lions and stood out in both the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2020.
