Erik ten Hag shares the injury updates before UEL clash against Sevilla. The availability of Manchester United’s injured stars for their Europa League match against Sevilla on Thursday (April 20) has been alluded to by manager Erik Ten Hag.
As the game is presently tied at 2-2, the Red Devils travel to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan this week to determine who advances to the semifinals of the competition. At Old Trafford, Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire scored own goals in the game’s final 10 minutes, allowing Ten Hag’s team to lose a two-goal advantage.
A handful of the Dutchman’s players, like Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho, are now sidelined due to injury, but there are also several returning players.
The matchday roster for Thursday’s game included Tyrell Malacia, Marcel Sabitzer, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford, who all trained on Wednesday, April 19.
At a recent news conference, Ten Hag was asked if any of them had a chance of making it back into the starting XI for Seville. He replied, “[They are] available because that’s why they’re in the airplane, but I’ll take my decisions tomorrow, we will make the decision.”
Even though Rashford was unavailable for Manchester United’s weekend trip to Nottingham, Luke Shaw might fill in at left-back in Seville. Sabitzer, who scored both of United’s goals in the first leg, might be given the opportunity to play here and rekindle his magic.
Sevilla has never been defeated by Manchester United:
The fact that Manchester United has lost twice in their previous four encounters with Sevilla may come as a shock. Their most recent trip to Sevilla, which took place in the Champions League in February 2018, resulted in a 0-0 draw before they lost 2-1 at Old Trafford in the second leg.
The teams reconnected two years later, but this time in the Europa League. In a single-leg semifinal, the Sevillistas won 2-1. The Red Devils were still winless in the match, but United and Sevilla played off another fascinating contest last week that ended all square at 2-2.
The hosts may be able to use this to their psychological advantage to further harm United, although they have recently played well on the road in the Europa League, with only one loss in their last 12 away games.
