Man United will sign Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United is interested in signing midfielder Joao Neves from Benfica this summer.
The Red Devils have yet to make a deal this summer, and Neves, 18, is the most recent player to be linked with a transfer to Old Trafford. He has gained attention from the Old Trafford team after a standout season at Benfica.
The midfielder progressed through Benfica’s divisions before making his first-team debut in their 3-0 Primeira Liga loss to SC Braga in December. He has played in 20 games, including six starts, for the Portuguese powerhouses, helping them win the league championship in 2022–23.
Neves has started all three of Portugal’s games at the current European Under-21 Championship, it should be noted. When they take on England in the quarterfinal on Sunday, July 2, he is anticipated to keep his position in the starting lineup.
Neves signed a new contract with Benfica in December, therefore they are not under any need to sell him before the 2027–2028 season. A tempting offer from a team like Manchester United, though, might persuade them to sell him.
Due to his youth and inexperience, the Portugal U21 international is unlikely to start right away at Old Trafford. He could, however, feature frequently for Erik ten Hag’s team given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek.
Neves, who can also play as a central midfielder, is primarily a defensive-minded midfielder. By the time Casemiro, 31, hangs up his boots, the teenager might overtake Casemiro, 31, as the Red Devils’ backup and establish himself as a regular starter.
Manchester United remains hopeful of signing Mason Mount:
The transfer market was quiet for Manchester United. It is well known that they have been trying to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea but have been unable to reach an agreement on a transfer fee.
Three offers, the most recent for £60 million, were turned down by Chelsea for the Red Devils. According to reports, Mauricio Pochettino’s team is seeking £58 million for Mount plus a further £7 million. The Old Trafford team chose to back out of a compromise despite the Blues’ willingness to meet in person.
There is a perception that the move will eventually take place despite Ten Hag’s side’s refusal to raise their offer for Mount. The first round of direct negotiations between the two clubs recently, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. If everything goes according to plan, Mount might play for Manchester United the following year.
