Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to be awarded the three points if their game with Manchester United on Monday at Old Trafford is called off due to fan protests.
The 1958, group that supports the United cause, said this week that it will demonstrate against the Glazer family’s “vile ownership” and make clear that “this time it will not blow away.”
Fan protests ahead of the game between the two clubs in May 2021, when fans gained access to the stadium.
Liverpool won the rescheduled match 4-2 a week and a half later, despite the fact that it had to be played behind closed doors owing to COVID-19 procedures.
When asked at a press conference on Friday if the club plans for a similar situation on Monday, Klopp said:
“Yeah, we will get on the bus and go home.
“I hope it doesn’t happen, but if it happens, I think we should get the points.
“We have nothing to do with the situation. However, if the supporters want the game not to happen, we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it somewhere in a jam-packed [calendar].
“I don’t think and hope this will not happen. And I have no idea what could happen.
“I don’t think about it. But, hopefully, we are fine. We go there, play the game and go home.
“But if, and I always think in this situation, the other team should get the points, they have nothing to do with it. They have prepared for it.”
After two games, neither team has claimed a victory this campaign, with Liverpool drawing twice and United dropping both of its games.
There are already concerns about whether Erik ten Hag, the new manager of the Red Devils, will be able to successfully coach his side to play his pressing style.
However, Klopp refused to comment on a query about if United’s squad would be capable of adapting.
However, he provided some insight into his experience when he arrived at Liverpool in October 2015, citing his first game in charge – a goalless draw at Tottenham.
He reminisced:
“I loved our first game.
“We had two days. It was a Saturday game, so the players returned from internationals on Wednesday.
“And we had Thursday, and Friday, not really to train, to recover and then to have one session.
“For the first impression of an idea, it was outstanding. I still can see Adam Lallana flying around and pressing everybody with a different shirt, so that was cool. A cool first sign for me, but that’s it.”
