Solskjaer’s players had considerable problems breaking the wall of the team from London. Mason Greenwood found himself in a convenient situation.
With a technical strike the 19-year-old tried to surprise the Pole, but the Hammers’ goalkeeper managed to put the ball on the post.
The hosts continued to press in the second half. Bruno Fernandes shot from a corner, Scott McTominay jumped highest, the ball was unluckily deflected by Craig Dawson, and fell into the net.
The Hammers had to go on the attack, which created space for United to counterattack. Manchester was close to another goal in the 60th minute.
Fernandes struck from outside the penalty area, but Fabianski brilliantly defended the Portuguese’s shot. The Pole was covered but managed to instinctively deflect the ball.
Greenwood was again close to scoring with less than a quarter of an hour to go in regulation time. West Ham tried to equalize, but the hosts’ defense did not allow it.
The Red Devils regained their position of vice-leader. West Ham players also kept their place.
