President of Barcelona Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed that the Argentine icon will stay at the team for the rest of his career and has answered the uncertainty about Lionel Messi’s future.
Earlier this week, the speculation was pushed into overdrive after Cadena SER reported that Messi was preparing to leave Barcelona before his deal ends next season.
The possibility was immediately denied by Bartomeu himself, who appears confident that the 33-year-old will sign a new deal with the Catalan giants till the end of his playing days.
“I’m not going to provide specifics, but Messi has repeatedly confirmed he’s going to finish his football career in Barcelona,” he added.
“We’re concentrating on the competition and a lot of players are in negotiations. Messi plans to continue and finish his career here. He’s got a lot of years remaining so we’re going to enjoy him much longer.”
